Getting mail is probably our biggest pain on the
road, but fortunately we really do not need most of our
mail as the majority of everything we do is online. Mail
though is still important and is really a pain, waste of
time, and money. The reason mail is such a pain
is:
1. We
currently have to request our mail to be sent to an
address we provide, but we never know if we have mail or
not when requesting it.
2. Our
mailing service does not tell us if they sent any mail
or not after the request.
3. We
primarily use general delivery and only one post office
per town accepts it, but the USPS only provides the
general delivery zip code, but does not show the street
address of the post office. Since the USPS does not show
the street address of the central post office for a
city, we have to drive to the first post office we find,
and get the address of the General delivery Post Office.
This can kill a day!
4. Since we do
not know what day our mail went out, or if any mail went
out to us, often there is no mail waiting for us at the
post office. Sometimes the mailing service takes a few
days to send out a priority package, so we never know
when it will arrive. This has caused us to have to make
multiple trips to the post office looking for our mail.
Since we camp in RV parks we can find our selves 30 to
60 miles from a general delivery the post office.
Net result: Lots of frustration. Many people
also use mailing services to establish residency in a
state for tax or other reasons, and changing mailing
services can be difficult. We have not found a service
that entirely meets our needs, but here is what we know
of so far:
